Matt Tarrant the Performing Artist

Fifteen years ago, I left my 9-5 job at one of Australia’s biggest banks to become a professional entertainer.

It was one of the most significant risks I have ever taken. Over the last fifteen years, I have built one of Australia’s most successful personal performing arts brands and several highly successful branches of that business in Performing Arts, Corporate Entertainment, Digital Marketing, Cruise Ship Entertainment, TV Entertainment, and beyond.

It all started with my first show when no one knew my name. I performed with two other magicians across various bars and clubs across Adelaide in my first show titled “MindBlown” (which became the name of my production company and talent agency). This show won the Adelaide Fringe Peoples Choice Award and built our base audience for what was to follow.

In 2013, a small venue in its second year (Gluttony) took the chance on me and my first stage show production, “3,” alongside fellow magicians Vinh Giang and Shahin Zareei. This show had a terrible timeslot of 9:35 p.m. and a small one-week run. We sold out that week, and Gluttony extended our season at a much more favourable time, which we sold out again in addition to winning another Adelaide Fringe Award.

For the following three years, I produced and performed in the “Deception” series of shows (Honestly Dishonest, More Deceit, & The Final Deceit) alongside Vinh and a young Matt Brandwood. These became must-see shows of the Adelaide Fringe and continued our streak of sold-out seasons and awards (once again winning in 2014, 2015, and 2016).

2017 was the launch of my series of shows under my name, which have sold more tickets than any solo artist in the history of the Adelaide Fringe. They have grown to become 1,000+ seat-per-night powerhouses, multi-award-winning touring shows that have taken me globally (Honestly Dishonest, UNSOLVED, MORE UNSOLVED, EVOLVE, Happy, ONE, Fate and ORIGINS).

Throughout this journey, I’ve experienced the highs and the lows of being a self-produced performer.
I’m so excited to share that story and help guide other artists on their journey with the crucial experiences I have learned.

Matt Tarrant the Producer

After the success of taking my shows from nothing to consistently over 10,000 tickets per season, I began working with other artists and shows in 2020 to Produce their shows, finding acts that had fantastic performances but were unable to sell them to the level they expected.

I’ve worked with and Produced the likes of Dom Chambers, Charlie Caper, Malin Nilsson, and London Calling, extending this support through Marketing Production Support for shows such as Mind2Mind in Dubai.

Each of these shows has seen a significant increase in sales with this work, with multiple success stories included;

Dom Chambers experienced a significant growth of 373% in box office sales in our first year working together in Adelaide, which we followed up with an additional increase of 39.22% in our second season.

London Calling experienced a monstrous growth of over 850% in box office sales in just our first year working together. This relationship is now an ongoing co-production with fellow producer/creative producer Paul Dabek.

In addition to directly producing shows, the Adelaide Fringe offers the One to Watch Award, Presented by Matt Tarrant, each year. The winner of this award receives a prize of $2000 directly donated by me and a six-month professional mentorship to work on their current project or new project and examine ways they can build sustainable production careers.

If you’re based in Adelaide, Matt may be able to arrange a face-to-face chat over coffee, depending on availability.

This can be arranged after your booking has been confirmed via email.

The bookings are for an hour, but we won’t be clock-watching. We will always ensure that your key questions and concerns are answered during our call.

If the questions are too broad and cannot be answered within an hour, Matt will advise this before the call and ensure the time is as effective as possible.

You will receive a receipt from Matt and my Production Company (MindBlown Productions) for this mentoring/course call.

It’s always best to speak to your accountant, but depending on how your business/income is set up, you may be able to claim this on your tax return.
